Women for Tulsi

Thank you for visiting Women for Tulsi!

These are challenging times for women and their families. First, the economy – and the Republican focus on targeting programs that disproportionately impact women, like Social Security and Medicare. Then came this “war on women” – from Republicans in Washington trying to destroy Planned Parenthood and give your boss the right to decide if you get birth control coverage to angry right-wing mouthpieces like Rush Limbaugh insulting good women for wanting decent healthcare and privacy. I can’t believe what I’m hearing. And it’s made me more determined than ever to elect Tulsi Gabbard to Congress.

"If I have the honor of representing Hawai`i’s Second District in Congress, I’ll never back down from those who seek to erode the basic rights and equal protections for all Americans."

Tulsi Gabbard

"As a soldier and as a woman, I feel it is my duty and obligation to speak out about the attacks being waged against women’s rights in this country."

EMILY's List: Combat Tested, Congress Approved

This year, EMILY’s List has two candidates who have served in the military: Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran running in Illinois’ eighth district; and Tulsi Gabbard, who served in the Iraq War with the Hawaii Army National Guard, is running in Hawaii’s second district.

I don’t know about you, but if there’s anyone I’d want fighting for women’s rights in Congress, it would be these strong, combat-tested, smart women.

Aloha!

I want to tell you about a Wai'anae resident named Tammy, who inspired me to write this. Tammy's story speaks to why electing Tulsi means we are sending a strong leader to Congress who will make a positive impact for all people of Hawai'i.Tulsi's fresh perspective, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to service will enable her to get things done for Hawai'i.

Stopping the Attack on Women's Rights

In 2004 when close to 3,000 of my fellow soldiers with the Hawai'i Army National Guard were activated for duty in Iraq, I left my seat in the state legislature and volunteered to deploy with them. We deployed together to the Middle East a second time in 2008.

Reflections on the Role of Government in Our Personal Lives

I'm committed to preserving a woman's right to choose, and I want to tell you how I got here.  This wasn't always my position - at one time, I was anti-choice.  I also once supported a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

What they're saying...

Kelly King

Chief Communications Officer, Pacific Biodiesel Technologies

"Tulsi Gabbard came into my panorama at a major disadvantage. I have strong views on women's rights and civil rights for all persons regardless of race or sexual orientation, and she had a background that countered those rights. Today, having spent time with Tulsi twice when she came to Maui, I feel her sincere commitment to human rights, as well as education and environmental protection, and I know her passion for making a difference in D.C. is fervent. Sometimes the most avid defenders of truth are individuals who come to their realizations through experience rather than having been raised with those dictums. I believe Tulsi is the champion we need in the second Congressional district to continue to uphold and fight for the rights of all human beings.  "

Member of the Honolulu City Council, representing District 5

"Working with Tulsi Gabbard on the Honolulu City Council has shown me what an inspiring role model she is for women everywhere. I have confidence in her integrity and character, which shines through in the high quality of her work. When she was first elected, I was quickly impressed with her courage in setting aside her own interests to take on tough issues that typical politicians shy away from.  I've worked with Tulsi's opponent Mufi when he was the Mayor, and his bullying tactics and “my way or the highway attitude" are the complete opposite of what I’ve experienced with Tulsi. She respectfully listens to others and always finds a way to bring people together to get the job done. I can think of no better person to serve the people of Hawaii's 2nd District in Congress than Tulsi Gabbard.  Once you meet her, you'll know exactly what I mean."

"I am confident Tulsi shares my values on social justice and equality. She will advocate and vote to support equity and diversity. Her experiences at the county, state and international levels have given her a valuable perspective to guide her to make national policies that will benefit our state and our future. Tulsi is hardworking, intelligent, independent and collaborative. I endorse her and ask you to give your vote to a woman who will be a strong advocate for women, education, working families, and civil rights."

Nancie Caraway

Oahu
First Lady of Hawaii

"The person who fills the seat of U.S. congresswoman Patsy Mink must have a deep commitment to universal human rights for ALL citizens. Much is at stake.  These were my overriding considerations when I first met and spoke with Tulsi Gabbard, candidate for 2nd district US House of Representatives. After hearing her personal story of political transformation, I am convinced that she will be an advocate for the human rights (regardless of sexual orientation, race, gender, religion, or economic class) of all Hawaii's diverse citizens. She is young, intelligent, committed to dialogue--and most of all--inclusive in her leadership style. This is the kind of ETHICAL leadership so lacking in other ego-driven politicos."
