Tulsi Served As Aide to Senator Akaka on Veterans Affairs

During my time in Washington, Senator Akaka was chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs. My military training and experience gave me a unique perspective that allowed me to assist the Senator in his many briefings with top brass from the Pentagon and the Department of Defense. I was able to share with Senator Akaka what other veterans and I had just recently experienced in the Middle East, as well as in the homecoming process, and provide the Senator specifics about what was working and what was not.

A Window into Tulsi's Heart

Tulsi’s experiences as a member of the Hawai’i Army National Guard during two deployments to the Middle East have given her invaluable insight into the real costs of war. Those experiences and insights will serve her well in Congress because it is members of Congress, after all, who have the heavy responsibility of declaring war. Seeing these clips helps us more deeply appreciate how Tulsi is uniquely qualified to serve in Congress during these challenging times. Fellow congressional representatives will listen to and hear Tulsi because they will understand that she knows what she is talking about; her knowledge has come not from reading reports or watching television, but from personal experience.

What they're saying...

"I had the honor and pleasure to serve along side Tulsi Gabbard during the initial combat deployment of the 29th Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. In her capacity within the Brigade Surgeons Section, I found Ms. Gabbard to be honest, professional, and selfless. It is with great pride and reverence that I give my endorsement and vote to Tulsi Gabbard. My greatest hope is that others in political positions may be as dedicated to the service of others, and half as worthy of loyalty as Tulsi Gabbard."

Martin DuPont

Veteran

"In twenty-five years of covering local politics I've seen a lot of politicians put on a great song and dance. But, this time around, I see a woman, who transcends the flutter and gets down to business. I see an uphill battle for Tulsi, but if I didn't think she was up to it, I wouldn't support her. Tulsi has the fire. And, when it's all said and done, that's what counts."

Allen Hoe

Veteran

"I've known Tulsi for several years and have witnessed first-hand her exceptional leadership both as an officer in the National Guard and also as an elected official. In these challenging times, we need a strong leader like Tulsi who has proven that she is willing to set aside her own interests and serve our country and our people with bravery, humility, and respect."

Ryan Soon

Veteran

"I had the honor of serving in the light of Tulsi’s leadership, and our platoon, our soldiers, and we as individuals prospered for it. In my career I have not seen a leader more dedicated, more hard-working, and most importantly so steadfast in her values than Tulsi. When leaders said it would be difficult, she gave possibilities. When soldiers were in doubt, she gave answers. And now, when we need help, I know she will give results. In a time of war, I placed my complete trust in Tulsi, and I was never disappointed. So when she takes her seat in Congress, I know that we will not be disappointed."

VoteVets.org

"Tulsi is really one to watch, this year and beyond. From serving on the city council to the State House of Representatives, to serving Senator Akaka, to volunteering to deploy to Iraq, time and time again, Tulsi has stood up to serve, and has done so with honor and integrity. She is an extraordinary woman who will make an extraordinary Member of Congress. We’re very proud to endorse her."
